Veteran's Day at GES

Galax Elementary School students took part in Veteran's Day activities on Friday November 10, 2017.  It was hard to tell who enjoyed the day more; the veterans or the students.

College Application Week 2017

Galax High School guidance counselor Jill Thompson has the amazing task of assisting seniros with transitioning from high school to college or career.  During the second week of November numerous colleges desend upon Galax to recruit students.  Virginia Tech, The University of Virginia, Emory and Henry, Radford University, and many more set up to meet with students.  Some of the colleges will even process and accept applications on site.  This day also gives students the chance to do some comparative shopping for cost, programs, and student life.

Fit to Serve 122

Curtis Bartlett, a young veteran, police officer, school resource officer, and a fitness instructor gave his life in the line of duty in March of 2017, protecting the citizens of Carroll County.  Now his community is coming together to assist local students, first responders, and law enforcement to have a state-of-the-art training facility.  This “Fit to Serve” facility will be a place that first responders can visit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; allowing them to work out when they are available to truly be “Fit to Serve.”  We hope you will consider helping us to honor Curtis and all first responders by donating to Fit to Serve.

Intersession at GES

Students at GES had a great week during Intersession.  They had the opportunity to try new things and learn new skills like chess, casting a fishing rod, and watching an musical instrument being made from scratch.  Take a look at just a few of the activities that students participated in during the week.
