Mrs. Susanne Wilson

Mrs. Wilson  is from Galax, Virginia and graduated from Grayson County High School in 1989. She attended Radford University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She completed her Master's degree in Special Education from Old Dominion University. Mrs. Wilson began her teaching career in Grayson County where she taught for seven years. She began her career at Galax Elementary School in 2000. She has taught kindergarten, second-grade, computer technology, special education, and third-grade.


She also loves spending time with her own family. She shares her home with her husband, a son, a daughter, and a cat. J Spending time with her family outdoors on the lake, by the river, or by the ocean is her favorite pastime.


 She looks forward to another wonderful year of teaching students and making her classroom into a “family” of learners.


Ms. Laura Sturgill

Mrs. Sturgill is originally from Richmond, Virginia and graduated from Midlothian High School in 1991. She attended Radford University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Mrs. Sturgill began her teaching career at Galax Elementary in 1997, where she has taught first, second, and third grade. She loves teaching and looks forward to spending each day with her amazing students! She hopes to always inspire them, as well as instill a lifelong passion for learning.

Mrs. Darla Robbins

Mrs. Robbins is a native of Southern California.  She graduated from California State University Long Beach (The Beach) with a BA in Liberal Studies and a concentration in Religious Studies.  She also holds an ESL endorsement.  She taught 8 years in California before moving to Virginia in 2004.  She has taught at GES since 2004.  Her experience has been in Kindergarten, first, second, third, and fourth grades along with teaching ESL for 3 years.

Ms. April Gunn

Ms. Gunn is from Hillsville and graduated from Carroll County High School. Upon graduation, she attended James Madison University and received her Bachelor’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (with a minor in Educational Technology) and her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She graduated in 2013 and this will be her first year of teaching. She is excited to join the staff of Galax Elementary and looking forward to a great year in 3rd grade!

Mrs. Mary Plant

Mrs. Plant was born and raised in Galax.  She attended Carroll County Public Schools and graduated from Carroll County High School in 1999. She went on to study at Emory and Henry College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary English (Elementary Education) in 2003. Mrs. Plant began her teaching career with Galax City Public Schools that same year. She taught 2nd grade for ten years and transitioned to 3rd grade in 2013. She has a passion for teaching and making learning fun for all of her students.

Mrs. Chenoa Montgomery

Mrs. Montgomery is a 2001 graduate from Carroll County High School.  She knew from an early age she wanted to be a teacher. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Ashworth College and a Master of Art in Teaching K-8 from Western Governors University.  Before starting her career in education, Mrs. Montgomery had the important job of a stay-at-home mom to her son, Thomas, and daughter, Alexis.  She began her career at Mount Airy Middle School in special education before joining the GES family.
