Mrs. Emily Boyles - Principal Galax Elementary

Emily Boyles began her teaching career at Galax High School in 2007. She taught Spanish at GHS for 8 years before obtaining the job of Assistant Principal at Galax Elementary School in 2015. During her time in the classroom, Mrs. Boyles coached various sports and helped with many extracurricular activities. She is proud to have served as the chairwoman for the Balanced Calendar Committee which led to the implementation of an innovative school calendar for the school division. Mrs. Boyles served as Assistant Principal at GES for three years under the leadership of Dr. Legg and is excited to become the new Principal for the coming school year. She graduated from Emory and Henry College in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Education. In 2011, she graduated with a Master of Science in Educational Administration and Supervision from Liberty University. Mrs. Boyles is currently completing work in the Virginia Tech Doctoral Program for Educational Leadership. She also serves as a board member on the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals and enjoys advocating for the students of Southwest Virginia. She is married to Brandon Boyles and they have two children, Connor (age 6) and Caroline (age 2). Mrs. Boyles says, "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as Principal of Galax Elementary School. I feel so lucky to work in an innovative school division with so much support from the City Council and School Board. Galax City Public Schools has the best faculty and staff who always put students first and do whatever it takes to make all students successful. Our students are amazing kids who work hard and put a smile on my face every single day. I cannot imagine myself serving students anywhere else. Galax is my home and this school is my family."

Mrs. Kristen Quesenberry, Assistant Principal Galax Elementary

Hello!  I extend to you a warm welcome to Galax Elementary School where our vision is, “My best for our success!”.  I would like to introduce myself, offer my background in education, and express my commitment to this district.  I am Kristen Quesenberry, Assistant Principal at GES. Native to Carroll County, I maintain a rich appreciation for this area including its history, its mountainous landscape and natural beauty, and the genuine people who reside in this community!  It is no mistake that my husband and I chose to raise our two children right here and we will forever call this place “home”.

I am a 1998 graduate of Carroll County High School and attended Emory & Henry College where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2001.  Upon graduation, I pursued a career in education with endorsements in Business Education and Mathematics. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching and sharing my love for mathematics with the students of Carroll County High for thirteen years.  During this time and in consideration of my commitment to being a lifelong learner, I further explored education and the area of mathematics at the University of Virginia and in 2009, I graduated with a Master of Education and a K-8 Mathematics Specialist endorsement.  Then in 2014, I graduated from Radford University with a Master of Science in Educational Leadership and it was at that time that I transitioned from classroom teacher to Assistant Principal at Carroll County High School.

I am more than excited to join Galax City Public Schools this year!  I find so much truth to, “It takes a village to raise a child” and I look forward to partnering with Mrs. Boyles, GES faculty and staff, the Galax community, as well as the students and families of GES to support our youth along their educational journey.  My focus and commitment is to provide GCPS with leadership that (1) promotes a safe and orderly environment conducive for learning, (2) partners with community members and organizations to enhance the educational experience for all, and (3) offers consistency in making fair, legal, and ethical decisions that supports students and teachers in reaching academic and professional goals.
