Mr. Darrin Byrd  CCEC Lead Teacher

Darin Byrd grew up in Carroll County, VA. He graduated from Carroll County High School in 1989. He began his college career at Surry Community College in North Carolina and finished his undergraduate degree from Radford University. While teaching, he continued his education and completed his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.

Darin began his teaching career at Gentry Middle School in North Carolina in 1998. In 1999, he accepted a Special Education position with Galax in 1999. He continued as a Special Educator for several years before becoming an Algebra I teacher at GHS and GMS. He currently assumes the positions of Math 7 and Algebra I.

Martha Bartlett was raised in Carroll County, attended the former Vaughan School and graduated from the former Fries High School.  She began her work with Galax City Schools in 2003 as a substitute teacher, moved to the high school as the In School Suspension aide and was transferred in 2010 to the Cooperative Center for Exceptional Children and works as a paraprofessional.

Mrs. Stacey Morgan - English

Mrs. Morgan grew up in Danville, Virginia where she graduated from George Washington High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Averett University and later received her Special Education teaching certification from Old Dominion University.

Mrs. Morgan has taught adaptive education in Galax City Public Schools since 2007. She has two children, Skylar and Coleman.

Mrs. Rhonda Hall - Co-Teaching

Mrs. Rhonda Hall grew up in Falls Church, Virginia. She moved to Wytheville in 1973 where she attended George Wythe High School. After graduation in 1978, she worked full time and married in 1980. After she and her husband began their family, she was a stay at home mom for 12 years.

After her son and daughter finished elementary school, she enrolled Wytheville Community College where she earned her associate’s degree. She then attended Radford University and earned her degree in Elementary Education. She began working in Galax City Public Schools in the fall of 1997 and continued her education by earning a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Old Dominion University in 2000. In 2003, Mrs. Hall achieved National Board Certification in Mild to Moderate Disabilities.

Mrs. Hall works in 6th and 7th grade classes and enjoys working with middle school students and co-teaching with the core subject teachers. She is also a co-sponsor of the Just Say No Club and likes the opportunity to work with the students outside of the classroom.

Ms. Chantel Fulton - Resource

Ms. Fulton grew up in Galax, VA and graduated from Carroll County High School in 2005. She attended Radford University for both her Bachelor of Science degree in social science (2008) and her Masters of Science degree in Special Education: General Curriculum K-12 (2011).

Ms. Fulton takes pride that she has always lived in Galax. She has two little boys and enjoys attending church at Galax Pentecostal Holiness Church. Ms. Fulton is a die-hard Washington Redskins and Washington Nationals fan!

Ms. Carrie Cole - Teacher of Blind and Vision Impairments/Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Ms. Cole grew up in Galax, Virginia and graduated from Galax High School in 1997.  She attended Radford University and got her bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2000.  She was hired as a teacher of the blind and vision impaired at a regional level in 2000, and got certification from the University of Louisville.  

Ms. Cole was hired by Galax City Schools in 2007 as the teacher of the blind and vision impaired. In 2009, she returned to Radford University for her endorsement in Deaf education, which was completed in 2010.  She is currently taking classes through Gallaudet University in American Sign Language.
